Conventions of a magazine advert

I have researched the conventions of a magazine advert to help inspire me to create my own idea magazine advert.
The key elements to consider are:
Artists name
The release date
Reviews
Record label
Place of purchase
Image of the digi-pak
Information of what is included in the digi-pak
Striking images, font, colour and texture

Here are a couple of examples of magazine adverts i have found that follow all the forms and conventions:

I particularly like the banner on Rihanna's magazine advert as it makes the digipak information stand out compared to Katy Perry's and may consider to include it in my own.

Both magazine adverts have bold colours, fonts and textures that stand out and are eye catching. They also include visually appealing images of the artists which draws the audiences attention to the advert.

Finished DigiPak

This screenshot shows my final and finished net of my digipak. There is an on going theme through the colour pink and teenage styling of the checkered shirt and denim shorts. I have also used the american flag to set a stereotypical teenage girl genre as Antigoni's music resembles artists like taylor swift, katy perry and selena gomez. I decided to shorten Antigoni's name to 'Tig' as i thought it suited her genre and style better. I also incorporated the lockers in the digipack in my back cover which were a strong location in my music video giving it the typical american highschool theme. The font i used is called 'Popstar Autograph' which is in the style of handwritten text which adds a young feel to the digipak as if Antigoni wrote it herself. I think this particular font works well and i will carry on using it in for my magazine advert.

In the process of making my digipak

This is the back cover of my digi pak in the editing process. I have included a bar code and a record label image that is normally found on the back cover of a digi pak.

I have an on going theme of pink and when i chose the american flag to be the background of my front cover i thought the blue and red looked quite harsh. I used the colour replacement tool on photo shop and changed the colour setting to pink where i could transform it. It worked very well and gave a much more feminine edge.

Pictures for digipack

Christy and I took many pictures of Antigoni for our digipack and advert. We now have a variety of pictures to choose from and Im now deciding which picture i want to use for my front cover.
These particular pictures are possibly the ones i may choose for my digi pack.

The most striking picture for the front cover could be either the one of antigoni lying down with her hair sprawled on the floor or her, sitting down, posing with her hand on her head. These are suitable for my front cover as it represents the teenage audience and fun nature.

Choosing Fonts

I have been online, researching different fonts i may use for the title on my digi pak. These 3 stood out to me in particular as i think it suits the genre and artists theme and target audience. My favourite out of the 3 is the first 'AGENT ORANGE' as i think it would stand out on the front cover and i could fill the letters in different primary colours.

Digi Pak Sketch

Here is a a sketch of a rough idea of what I want my digi pack to look like. I have gone with the high school theme image by including lockers, a brick wall and a school bag etc. I have also drawn a dressing table with make up scattered across making it relate to my artists target audience - teenage girls. However, Christy has drawn a separate sketch where we can compare our ideas together and discuss what images are our favourite.

Similar Artists

I have researched artists i think are similar and could influence my digi pak and styling of Antigoni.

Carly Rae Jepsen resembles a typical teenage girl and her pop genre reflects in her styling and lyrics which Antigoni similarly does too. The font of the artists name is in a hand written style which adds softness to the front cover. Where as if it was bold it would portray the artist in more of a striking and confident manor. More over this could work well with antigoni as she follows in the same styling and genre as Carly Rae Jepsen.

Taylor Swift represents a 'sweet' and 'innocent' teenage girl who releases albums and singles about relationships. Although her genre is country music, it has a pop element to it which highlights the similarity between her and Antigoni. Antigoni's songs are about school life, boys and relationships and are aimed to girls similarly to her age. Taylor Swift also attracts a mainly female teenage fan base as they can relate to her songs. Taylor swift's styling has a sense of innocence to it with her signature hairstyle of ringlet curls. In comparison to other famous artists such as Beyonce or Lady Gaga, Taylor swift's make up is quite natural. However, over the years i have noticed she wears clothes that show a little more skin, such as short shorts which may attract more males and broaden her fan base. In comparison to Antigoni, this is very much similar as she wears natural make up and casual clothes that resemble her age and audience.
