Rough Cut

Christy and I have now developed a rough cut of our music video using the footage we have. It has helped us get together all the good shots we want to use and highlight areas we think could improve. There for we are going to film again this week, and weekend to gather more close ups of antigoni and the 'popcorn boy', and shots of the motif; popcorn

Changing actors..

Christy and I have had an unfortunate week as our artist has let us down twice for the dates we scheduled to meet and film the music video. We are trying to look for an alternative person to act as the lead singer and hopefully step in for us. We are lucky to have a strong drama department at school where girls wouldn't mind helping us out.

Finding the 'popcorn boy'

Christy and I have contacted a local theatre school Susi Earnshaw to ask if they would have an actor that wouldn't mind taking part in our music video as the 'popcorn boy'. We have also been asking around; family and friends but we are finding it quite difficult to find someone who is willing to take part in the filming.

Story Boarding

Christy and I spent a lesson planning and drawing our story board for the 'Popcorn Boy' music video we are going to film over October half term. Our post-it notes, mood board and extra planning helped us organise ourselves in deciding on shots and how we are going to shoot the video.

Ideas In Images

We have put together a collage of images from music videos and films that have inspired and helped us develop ideas for our music video 'Popcorn Boy' with the American High School theme.

50 word Pitch

The 'Popcorn Boy' music video will have an American High School theme, including stereotypical characters such as a geek, cheesy cheerleader girls and a model like, muscly boy they fuss over. Popcorn is the motif throughout the video and with that it will create a bright, fun and party atmosphere.

Post-it Notes

Christy and I gathered a few ideas on what we would like to include in our music video. These will help us remember what visuals we had in mind when we thought of the ideas and special effects we would like to use.

Booked Equipment

Hi Serena,
You may pick up camera and tripod on Friday 26th OCTOBER but the dolly will have to shared with others in you teaching group. I only have 3 dollies and so far have bookings for 7!!!!. Think when you will want to use it and then we can arrange for it to be passed around.

Ideas!

Christy and i took these ideas and discussed a number of them we would like to encorperate into our music video.

Having popcorn as a motif throughout the video is one of our main ideas we like as it connects the lyrics to the visuals. We also think colour will be a big element in our video to portray its up beat and bold meaning with costumes, hair and makeup to set the american high school theme. The soundtrack is fast and contains a lot of energy, so we thought we could maintain that through fast pace cuts and editing with a variety of shots including close ups, long and wide shots, high angle and low angle shots.

One idea that didn't take our favor unlike the others was having the artist playing her guitar. The reason for this is because we do not want the video to have an acoustic feel as it wouldn't suit the soundtrack as there are a lot more beats than guitar strings.

Target Audience

Target Audience

The target audience for the song we have chosen ‘popcorn boy’ is aimed at teenage school girls.

There is a clear comparison with the lyrics throughout the songs creating an american high school vibe.
This age category would be mainly around 14 - 18 years. Because the artist is in this age category herself, it helps the target audience relate to what she is singing about. In our music video, the actors will be in their teenage years set in a school enhancing the narrative of the song.

The type of fashion sense a typical teenage girl has is current, recent clothing from popular shops such as Top Shop, River Island, Miss Selfridge, Hollister and H&M. This is similarly linked with the type of music listen to as their taste is within the top charts today that are young and current that mostly contain pop, country, R&B and rap.

The artist we are using has a strong relation to girls within the teenage category makes the song enjoyable as young people can compare to their own lives. For example; going out to parties and having fun, having a strong bond with friendship and sharing gossip etc.
