Digipak Research

What is a digipak and how is it similar/different to an album cover?
A digipack is a patterned CD/DVD packaging used for singles or special editions of albums. They include a gatefold (book-style) paperboard or card stock outer binding with one or more plastic trays capable of holding a CD/DVD attached in the inside.

What does a Digipak net look like and how many faces are usual?
This is a commonly used 4-faced digipak consisting of pictures, the CD and band profile inside and tour dates, lyrics and front cover on the outside.

What do we usually find on the various faces of a digipak?
On a digipack, there is usually a title front page with a picture of the artist and a list of songs displayed at the back. Inside the digipak includes lyrics for all the songs and branding pictures of the artist. Here is an example of Britney Spear's digipak of her album:

Does there need to be a connection between the faces on the digipak?
There does need to be a clear connection between the face on the digipak in order to portray a clear profile of the artist and for it to relate to the audience for them to buy it.
This is an example of a digipak from one of the best selling albums in the music industry.
